Memorial Day & Water Usage

Sprinklers - CT Water Treatment CompanyThe holiday weekend is just hours away and we know everyone has fun plans! We also know you will be using more water for parties, filling or topping off your pool, watering your lawn, or pressure washing your house. Read this blog for some helpful tips!

Water facts:

  • Pools usually need between 3,000 and 6,000 gallons. That’s about 10-20 days worth of normal household water usage!
  • Watering your lawn also uses a lot of water. Running the water for a few hours straight could cause pressure loss or complete water loss.
  • If you are having a party, remember that’s a lot more water being used inside your home. This is more taxing on your water treatment and well pump.
  • Connecticut has not seen much rain lately – which means the water table in your well could be lower than normal.

When you use too much water in such a short amount of time you could:

  • Notice a drop in pressure
  • Notice water quality issues
  • Run your well dry
  • Burn out your well pump
  • Damage your water treatment equipment

Pool - CT Water Treatment CompanyTips for this weekend:

  • Don’t use water all at once – Space it out. Let the water run for 30 minutes, then rest for 30 minutes so your well can recover and keep up with the demand.
  • Change your sediment filter first – we recommend changing your filter every 1-3 months. Since it will be working overtime and could cause pressure loss, change it before your company comes over in case it is already a bit clogged.
  • Untreated water –bypass your water treatment system for filling your pool or watering the lawn to protect your water treatment equipment, but ONLY IF your raw water doesn’t run with color or have iron or manganese, because that could stain your patio and pool.
  • You can always fill your pool with another source – Hire a professional water delivery company. That way you don’t have to worry about using your well water.
