Low pH – Acidic Water

What is pH? It stands for “potential of hydrogen”. But think of pH as a scale to measure whether your water is acidic or alkaline. The scale itself has a range of 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Anything below a 7 is considered acidic. Anything above a 7 is considered alkaline. In CT, we mostly have acidic water.

The two main reasons you want to treat acid water is:Low pH in CT well water

  1. It is corrosive and will damage your household pipes, fixtures and plumbing, cause pin hole leaks, and leave blue green stains on your shower walls, sinks and fixtures
  2. It can leach copper from your copper pipes and lead from old solder into your water – leaving you at risk to drink that copper and lead

Treatment is Easy!

Usually, an Acid Neutralizer is the solution. The neutralizer system includes a tank with media inside called limestone. As the acidic water passes through the tank, it dissolves the limestone, thus raising the pH to neutral. We recommend having us come out every year to re-fill the tank. Learn more about Neutralizers
